A luxury Christmas party in London rarely starts in a nightclub. The most polished December evenings happen in a private dining room behind a restaurant's main floor, in a grand hotel dressed for the season, or in a historic space hired outright for one night. This guide covers how those three formats work for Christmas 2026, how they are priced, what recent seasons have cost, and how to plan one without the details slipping.

Christmas Day 2026 falls on a Friday, so the party nights run through the first three weeks of December, with Thursdays and Fridays the most sought after. Club tables are a separate conversation; this is the other side of the season, where the dinner is the event.

Three formats beyond the club

Format Typical group How it is usually priced The feel
Private dining room 8 to 40 guests Set menu per head, room hire, or a minimum spend Intimate, seated, conversation-led
Hotel Christmas party 20 to several hundred Package per head, often with drinks Polished, festive, easy logistics
Exclusive hire 40 guests and up Venue hire plus catering, quoted on request A space that belongs to the group for the night

The right choice depends less on budget than on the evening you want. A private dining room suits a team that wants to talk; a hotel suits a mixed group that wants everything under one roof; exclusive hire suits a company that wants a night people remember by its setting.

The private dining room

The private dining room is the quiet luxury of the Christmas season. A door that closes, a menu agreed in advance, a wine list chosen by the host and a single team of staff for the evening.

Pricing usually follows one of three models. Some restaurants charge a room hire fee on top of food and drink. Others waive the fee in exchange for a minimum spend, so the room is free as long as the group spends a set amount. Many simply sell a set festive menu per head. The Standard's 2023 guide to Christmas group dining described a private room with no room charge, only a minimum spend, as the ideal arrangement. The same guide noted that Pied à Terre has three private dining rooms.

Recent festive menus give a sense of the range at the top end. For Christmas 2025, the Standard's round-up of London Christmas menus listed a £95 party menu at Langan's in Mayfair, served throughout December, and a £92 festive menu at The Ritz on weekdays. Those are 2025 figures; most restaurants publish their 2026 menus from the autumn.

Before you confirm, ask for:

  • The final numbers deadline. Most rooms need confirmed numbers a set time before the date, and charge for the confirmed figure.
  • The wine plan. Agree whether wine is pre-selected by the bottle, charged on consumption or capped.
  • Service charge. Whether it is included in the per-head price or added to the bill.
  • The finish time. Private rooms often have a fixed end, after which the group moves on.

The hotel Christmas party

London's grand hotels treat December as their season, and a hotel party puts the dinner, the bar and, for those who want them, the bedrooms in one building.

Time Out's 2026 guide to Christmas hotels in London gives a flavour of what the leading addresses do. It lists The Berkeley's Alpine pop-up with dining in ski gondolas, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day dining at The Dorchester, and festive drink packages at The London Edition from £30 per person. Hotels like these sell everything from a table in the restaurant to a full ballroom party, and most quote party packages per head on request.

The hotel format solves the part of the night that usually goes wrong: the end. A group that stays over, or a host who books rooms for the guests travelling furthest, removes the late scramble for cars. If the party is in the City or the West End and guests are heading in different directions, our guide to luxury night transport in London covers pre-booked cars and pick-up planning.

Exclusive hire: the space as the statement

Exclusive hire is the most ambitious version: a whole restaurant, a hotel's top floor or a historic building taken for the night. Time Out's 2026 list of London party venues, which notes that it includes commercial partners, gives the scale of what is on offer. It lists the crypt and halls at St Martin in the Fields for up to 500 guests with a late licence until 2am, the Handel and Hendrix house on Brook Street for up to 70 standing, Margot's private dining room in Mayfair for up to 32, and The May Fair hotel for up to 370 standing.

Prices for exclusive hire are almost always on request, and they tend to be built from the same parts:

  • A venue hire fee, sometimes waived against a minimum spend on food and drink.
  • Catering, either in-house or from an approved list of caterers.
  • Licence hours, which decide when the music stops and the bar closes.
  • A deposit, with the balance due before the date.

Ask early which of those is fixed and which is negotiable, because the answer changes once December dates start to fill.

Timing and planning

December rewards early decisions. The Thursdays and Fridays before Christmas, 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18 December 2026, are the dates most groups want, and the most sought-after rooms go first. A weekday lunch, an early-week dinner or a party in the first days of January can open up rooms and menus that are already taken on a December Friday, and recent menus such as The Ritz's weekday festive offer show that weekday pricing can differ.

For a company party, decide three things before you approach a venue: the headcount, the budget per head including drinks and service, and whether the evening ends at the table or continues elsewhere. Our guide to corporate entertainment in London covers the hosting side, and how to plan a luxury night out in London covers the shape of a high-end evening.

When the night continues

Many Christmas dinners end with part of the group wanting to keep going. If that is the plan, arrange the second half before the night rather than at eleven o'clock on a December Friday. Our guide to dinner and a nightclub in London explains how to pair the two, and the same discipline that makes a black-tie evening work, set out in our black-tie New Year's Eve guide, applies here: a clear format, an early commitment and the journey home decided in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a luxury Christmas party in London cost?

It depends on the format. For Christmas 2025, the Standard listed festive menus of £92 at The Ritz on weekdays and a £95 party menu at Langan's, before drinks. Exclusive hire and hotel ballroom parties are quoted on request, and as of October 2026 most 2026 menus and packages are still being released.

What is the difference between room hire and a minimum spend?

Room hire is a fee for the space on top of food and drink. A minimum spend waives that fee as long as the group spends a set amount on food and drink. Ask which applies, and whether service charge counts towards the minimum.

How far ahead should a Christmas party be arranged in London?

As early as possible for a December Thursday or Friday, as the most sought-after private rooms and hotel spaces fill first. A weekday or an early January date gives more choice.

Can a hotel Christmas party include rooms for guests?

Many London hotels sell party packages alongside bedrooms, and staying over removes the late search for transport. Ask the hotel whether a group rate is available for the party date.

When is Christmas Day 2026?

Friday 25 December 2026. The main party nights are the Thursdays and Fridays in the three weeks before it.

A luxury Christmas party is mostly a matter of choosing the right room early and settling the details in writing. If you would like help shaping the evening, or arranging what follows the dinner, message our team on WhatsApp with your date, numbers and the format you have in mind.
